ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 Bid

The International Cricket Council announced its decision on which countries would host the 2011 World Cup on April 30, 2006.
Australia and New Zealand also bid for the tournament, and a successful Australasian bid for the 2011 World Cup would have seen a 50-50 split in games, with the final still up for negotiation. The TransTasman bid, Beyond Boundaries, was the only bid for 2011 delivered to ICC headquarters in Dubai ahead of the March 1 deadline. Considerable merits of the Australasian bid were the superior venues and infrastructure and the total support of both the New Zealand and Australian governments on tax and customs issues during the tournament, according to Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland. The New Zealand government had also given assurance that Zimbabwe would be allowed to compete in the tournament, following political discussions in the country whether their cricket team should be allowed to tour Zimbabwe in 2005. The Australasian bid also won the support of West Indies captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
ICC President Ehsan Mani said the extra time taken by the Asian bloc to hand over its bid compliance book had harmed the four-nation bid. However, when the time came to vote, Asia won the hosting rights by ten votes to three. The Pakistan Cricket Board has revealed that it was the vote of the West Indies Cricket Board that swung the matter, as the Asian bid had the support of the four bidding countries along with South Africa and Zimbabwe. It was reported in Pakistani newspaper Dawn that the Asian countries promised to hold fund-raising events for West Indian cricket during the 2007 World Cup, which may have influenced the vote. However, chairman of the Monitoring Committee of the Asian bid, I. S. Bindra, said it was their promise of extra profits in the region of US$ 400 million that swung the vote, that there "was no quid pro quo for their support", and that playing the West Indies had "nothing to do with the World Cup bid".
International cricket politics lie at the heart of the dispute. Since cricket is the most popular sport in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, Asia is of fundamental financial importance to the International Cricket Council. However, historically, international cricket has been controlled by the Old Commonwealth nations of England, Australia, and New Zealand, supported by South Africa. The centre of cricketing politics has moved, over time, with the money, and the Asian nations, particularly India under the guidance of Jagmohan Dalmiya, looking for greater control in the direction of international cricket, and in 2005 Dalmiya said that the Indian subcontinent should host every third World Cup

Shoaib Malik Going Through the Toughest Phase of Life?

Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik has admitted that he is passing through the toughest phase of his life after being ignored by the national selectors for the ICC World Cup next month.
Malik, who failed to make it to the national squad despite finishing among the top performers in the domestic Quaid-e-Azam Trophy with four centuries, said, "It has not been a easy time for me in the last few months."
"It is a tough phase and being ignored for the World Cup without any creditable reason has been very disappointing," Malik said in an interview.
He has been out of favour with the PCB and selectors after being dropped for the one-day series against England last September.
He was also ignored for the series in New Zealand and the World Cup with the cricket board not giving clearance to the selectors to consider him.
The board's integrity committee met Malik twice and asked him to submit relevant documents as it investigated his assets, bank accounts and sources of income.
To make matters worse for Malik, a lawyer in Lahore filed a civil suit demanding the court to investigate the assets of the former captain.
"It has been disappointing to be ignored like this and it is hard to come to terms with what is happening. But what hurts is that I know I am in the best form of my life and if I had been picked in the World Cup I would have done a lot for the team," Malik said.
The senior player said that he was reconciling to the situation and preparing for a tough battle to convince the board and selectors to select him.
"Cricket is my passion and life and despite all disappointments and setbacks I remain positive about the future. I know I have done nothing wrong and I will make a comeback soon.
"No one can separate me from cricket and I will continue to perform in domestic cricket and let everyone know I am around," he said.

Favourites To Win 2011 Cricket World Cup

All the cricket fans were very eagerly looking for 2011 world cup. offcourse odi world cup is the biggest event conduted in cricket and its prety obvious that everybody wants their own nation to lift the cup and become world champions but which are all the teams who were real favourites to become world champions?
While we are talking about the favourites to win 2011 world cup the first team that comes to mind is india. After winning the inaugral t20 world cup under mahendra singh dhoni, indian cricket team developed over the years to graet extent. they have now became a most powerful side from a descent side. For the last three years so much happened with indian cricket.experienced players like sachin, shewag, yuvraj, dhoni, zaheer, harbajan, gambir performing consistently and wining matches for them in all formats of the game.
on the other hand team india saw a group new generation cricketers performing under pressure and winning the match for them.players like virat kholli, suresh raina,Praveen kumar has become integral part of the team with their splendid match winning performances in last two years.players like yusuf pathan, nehra, munaf were found themselves in good form and performed well.after all this might well be sachin’s last world cup who is arguably best batsman in the world.so sachin will be very eager to win world cup for india which is the only thing he has’nt done before.beating this particular Indian team in subcontinent is the biggest challenge for any team in this world cup.
Next comes the south africans. they are offen called chokers. they look like a very good side but they play very ordinarily in all icc tournament. Their highest achievement so far in world cup is semi final in 1999 which they lost narrowly to Australia.south africa have in form players like kallis, amla, smith,ab deviiliers, styen.these players have exposure in the subcontinent pitches and performed exceedingly well.players like dumminy, morne morkel ,botha should perform well in sub continent. Apart from india biggedt problem for south Africa is breaking the jinx and winning the cup. Which will be south africas first ever victory in an major icc tournament.cosidering the fact that they are the no1 ramked team in world they have a good chance.
England found themselves very happy for they are now the reason is one half year before nobody would have imagined that England will be one of the favourite for world cup which takes place in inda.england were also similar to south Africa they didn’t win any major icc tournament brfore last years t20wc.england last won t20 wrold cup and break the jinx. They played well as a unit and now they are in good shape and form.their major success includes winning Australia in Australia and south Africa etc. england were now a new looking side which have high success rate.under strauss captaincy players like Peterson, trot, bell,Anderson.broad, swann, bresenen help their team to reach new height winning major countries in past one year and win ashes victory in Australia will make England more confident ahead of world cup.
Sri lanka is one the very dangerous side in sub continent apart from the fact that they have always performed well in major tournaments.sri lanka have played many matches with india in last two years and been very impressive despite india winning many encounters comparatively.srilankans always been very competitive. This is the last world cup for murali who have been a match winners for srilanka for many years.apart from him jayawardane, sangakara, dilshan would be very keen to perform well as they are , for the past few years. All rounder Mathews, spear head malinga were in good form and they will play a crucial role in teams victory.its very hard to beat srilanka in subcontinent not just for teams from away but even for india.sri lanka is very good fielding unit and very dangerous side to compete in sub continent.im sure that nobody takes srilanka lightly.
Last but not least three time world champions Australia. Austrlia is now going through a tough phase.they cant achieve any thing big in recent times.many feels that australia’s dominance is over in world cricket. Few cricket expert dose’nt even consider Australia among favourites for this world cup.australia still dosent have a settled line up after player like mcgrath, warne, gillchrist retired.they are struggling to find correct replacement for them.apart from this players like Watson, hussy, hadin were in good from and they have exposure in subcontinent as well.
